We Can Be Made Brand New! ✨

Today we are going to talk about weathered wood. You are over here thinking, like what? Trust me girl, I got you. Just keep reading it will all come together.

During this time, we have been doing some projects on the house and one of those projects was planting flowers and restaining our deck. Before we get started on the actual story, let me just give you a back story.

We bought this house a little over 10 years and moved in right after we got home from our wedding. This house was a MAJOR fixer upper. We put a lot of work (well Brandon did way more than I did) & money into making this our home. 

About 5 or 6 years ago, we decided to have a deck built so we could have a place to hang out, entertain, watch tv, and have fun outside. The deck is one of our favorite places to be. Especially on those nights where the weather is perfect, we like to turn on outdoor lights we have strung around & listen to Texas country while we have an adult beverage. 

Brandon stained the deck once it was finished, but of course over time the stain has weathered because of the outdoor elements. I mean, hello! we are talking some serious TEXAS ️ + rain, wind, etc. 

So needless to say, the deck needed to be restained. Yesterday we went and purchased some new stain as well as picked up some new flowers to plant to spruce up the flower beds around it. 

I got the job of staining while Brandon planted flowers. So here we are, the reason why I am telling you about this story. LOL I told you there would be a reason for it. 

As I was staining the wood, not only was it therapeutic, but I saw Jesus. 

Ok, if you are like GIRL you lost me now, keep reading. I promise. 

I saw Jesus in the act of making the wood look brand new again. 

So hear me out. 

The wood was weathered, it was faded, it was worn. I took my time and stained each piece with care and love. As I did that I noticed the wood becoming brand new again. I noticed the wood becoming revitalized and beautiful.

This was when I was like "WOW Jesus, You are so cool!"

Jesus knows that we are weathered, He knows that we are worn. He knows that we have been through hard things & He knows that when we are hurting. He also isn't worried about those things because He knows He can make your brand new in HIM. 

How freaking cool is that? 

Here are a couple scriptures that confirms this: 

Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” 

-Lamentations 3:22-24 

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

-Isaiah 43:18-19

So literally, every single day we are given the opportunity to start FRESH. We are given the opportunity to be made brand new. 



Now I hope the story of me staining the deck makes sense. What is really cool to me is that we can see Jesus in the simple things. I mean girl, I saw Jesus while I was staining the deck. If I can see Jesus there, we can see Jesus anywhere. 

I hope that you too can see the beauty in being made brand new EVERY SINGLE DAY. If today you feel like a failure, tomorrow you get to start over!
